Details: The one-day SMAA event in Ann Arbor will take place on Saturday, July 25, 2009.
It will be a relatively informal look at a variety of ways to use the Japanese sword.
This will benefit experienced swordspersons and complete beginners.
Schedule:
9:30 - 10:20 am - Iaido - led by Nicklaus Suino, iaido 7th dan
10:30 - 11:20 am - Kendo - led by Charlie Kondek, kendo 3rd dan
11:30 - Noon - Jigen Ryu speed drill contest
Lunch - Noon - 1:30 pm
1:30 - 2:50 pm - Tameshigiri (test cutting) - led by Andrew Bryant, iaido 3rd dan
3:00 - 3:50 pm - Aiki-Ken - led by Max Roach, aikikai 3rd dan
4:00 - 4:30 pm - Suburi
Each "seminar" will be an informal opportunity to try "one bite at the apple" -
a single aspect or theory of each use of the sword.
Minimum equipment: bokken, shinai (both available for sale on site)
Preferred equipment: bokken, shinai, iaito, shinken, suburito
Cost (includes 2 targets for tameshigiri):
